Interdisciplinary Innovation

My first short film that explores the power of collaboration in tackling environmental challenges. Set in Madagascar and Williamsburg, Virginia, it follows an international team—students, scientists, and community members—working together on a DIY water quality sensor initiative. Through interviews and storytelling, the film celebrates cross-cultural exchange, community empowerment, and the transformative potential of interdisciplinary conservation.

This short film spotlights how William & Mary’s Institute for Integrative Conservation (IIC) is shaping the next generation of conservation leaders through hands-on, globally minded, and locally centered research. Following three dynamic projects—from managing wildlife-vehicle conflict in Virginia, to monitoring sandhill cranes across the U.S., to addressing human-wildlife conflict in Nepal—the film weaves a circular narrative that challenges the phrase “think global, act local.” Instead, it asks: what if local inspires the global, and the global reshapes the local? Through William & Mary student and faculty voices, the story explores the interconnectedness of conservation work and the power of collaboration across scales and borders.
